The Irwin 7, 9 and 10 inch plain screw vices are the traditional heavy duty woodworkers vice. They are designed to stand up to the heaviest work. The rear jaw of the vice is either let into the bench top or fitted within the, replaceable, EMIR coverplate (see W7QD). The moving jaw is then fitted with the EMIR cheek to protect your work from the iron casting. These vices also provide a steel dog.
The W7 and 9QD vices offer the same design features as the plain screw vice but with the added benefit of a quick release mechanism. The additional cost can be justified with saved user time and effort.
